COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford confirmed Wednesday that he was in Florida over the weekend with his Argentine girlfriend trying to rekindle their romance, the romance that resulted in his divorce from Jenny Sanford.
Some lawmakers have criticized the governor because he left the state without telling the lieutenant governor, just like he did last summer when he went to Argentina to see his then mistress.
WSAV's Robert Kittle asked him why he didn't notify lieutenant Governor Bauer, given what happened last year.
"I was in Washington last week, and we didn't notify the lieutenant governor. I will be in Georgia on Monday meeting with Republican governors for a dinner. I will not notify the lieutenant governor. That has been our standard protocol for the last 7-and-a-half years," said Sanford.
A House committee passed a bill Wednesday that the Senate already passed. The bill would require the governor to notify the lieutenant governor if he's going to be out of the state.
