Want to indulge in the pleasures of Thanksgiving without all the guilt? Here's an option plus an added bonus. Next Thursday, you can eat and exercise while helping out a good cause at the second annual United Way Turkey Trot presented by Southcoast Medical Group.
Approximately 1,000 experienced runners and amateur weekend athletes are expected to pack Daffin Park Thanksgiving Day for a 5k run/walk, Kids K, and a Diaper Dash for babies.
There will also be a post-race awards ceremony, which includes food, drinks, and fun for the entire family.
For the first time, the United Way is also offering participants and race day volunteers a chance to feast on the finest Cajun style fried turkey (9 - 11 lbs.). Quantities are limited. The cost is $40. All proceeds benefit United Way of the Coastal Empire and AWOL (All Walks of Life), a local non-profit youth arts organization.
Race day volunteers are needed. For more information, contact Kim Fritz at 912.651.7725.
Contact Tony Jordan at 912.704.3893 or email him at tjordan@awolinc.org if you'd like to help with help with turkey prep and distribution or to place an order.
