The South Carolina Association of Teachers and Educators- or SCATE, held its annual workshop at the University of South Carolina Hilton Head Gateway campus this weekend. SCATE President, Judy Beck, says this program is about the future of education in the state.
"SCATE
is an organization of teacher educators from across the state of South Carolina, an avenue for us to share ideas, and best practices, and how we are trying to prepare the next generation of educators," she said.
SCATE officials say that they plan to move the conference to a different location every year........but Bluffton was a good place to kick it off.....
"I
t gives educators from upstate a chance to come down here and see whats happening in this part of the state...its a forum, it gives educators the opportunity as we move from campus to campus to see whats going on," said Executive Director, Kathy Baker.
Officials say this program is about giving teachers a chance to freshen their skills and possibly learn something new from a colleague.
"W
ell its important to sharpen the saw, i mean you get dull if you don't get a chance to collaborate and its important to meet people and network." according to USC College of Education Dean, Jeff Priest.
