The coming year marks an exciting time for Girl Scouts.
The organization is approaching its 100th year and today, they had another reason to celebrate.
Its also founder Juliette Gordon Low’s 150th birthday.
So, in honor of her, girls from all over came together today for the re-lighting of the Friendship Unity Flame.
The oldest and youngest scouts got to go the honors…the oldest, 82- the youngest, just 5 years-old.
Historic Georgia’s CEO, Margaret Skene says that she hopes the girls cherish being a part of a group like the Girl Scouts.
“I hope that they remember this and see that they are a part of something much larger. I was really hoping that they could see the older girls and what they have been able to do. And see that there is a big old world out there, and it’s theirs.”
Throughout the next few months, the Girl Scout organization will be hosting many events celebrating its past and future.
In May of 2012, thousands of girl scouts- young and old- will cross the Talmadge Bridge- to symbolize moving from one century, in to the next.
