The Labor Day weekend is almost here, and law enforcement around the area are ready.
Thursday night by the Talmadge Bridge, blue lights were everywhere, up and down the highway.
Its not an accident, it's a show of force for the holiday weekend.
Georgia and South Carolina law enforcement joining together to keep the roads safe.
"We'll be aggressively seeking out dui offenders and others who drive in a risky manner," said Lance Corporal Paul Brouthers of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Labor Day weekend is the end of what are called the 100 deadly days of summer.
That's the time from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Where police, troopers and deputies on both sides of the river have to work hardest for your safety.
"The job of keeping the roadways safe is hard enough when its one agency or one officer doing it," explains Captain Matt Libby of the Port Wentworth Police Department. "But if we are able to pool our resources for a common good it's a win win for the community."
After the photo opportunities are over, its time to get to work. Stopping cars, teaching folks about seat belts, car seats and dui laws.
A line of cars and a few offenders found out quickly this was no joke. Something officers hope they'll remember all weekend long.
"What we're doing is setting the tone for the public for Labor Day," explains Brouthers. "We're very serious about what we're doing."
"We just want to remind people that we're out here tonight but we're out here every day," said Libby. "Especially this holiday. If you are doing it, we're going to catch you."
This summer in South Carolina there have been 175 deadly crashes, that's actually 75 fewer than last year.
There have also been 9000 dui cases prosecuted, which is 400 fewer than in 2009.
Officials credit campaigns like these for the improved numbers.
