Garden City's former City Hall building now has a new purpose. This afternoon, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) will officially "re-open" the facility as GPA's Annex 2 Building.
The Annex 2 Building will be the GPA's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified building. A LEED-Certified building is an internationally recognized green building certification that, among other things, improves energy savings, water efficiency and reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
Georgia's deepwater ports and inland barge terminals support more than 295,000 jobs throughout the state and contribute $15.5 billion in income, $61.7 billion in revenue and $2.6 billion in state and local taxes to Georgia's economy each year.
The re-opening ceremony takes place at 3:30 at 100 Main Street in Garden City.
