Idol Fever in Savannah

»  Comments | Post a Comment

If you have been downtown over the last few days, you might have noticed -- Savannah has Idol fever!

The number one reality show is here in town filming for its latest season -- and it's created a lot of buzz.

News 3's Meredith Ley got a chance to speak with judges today and find out why they love Savannah.

There’s nothing like southern hospitality, and that is exactly what show host Ryan Seacrest and all the judges of American Idol got from folks along River Street Thursday.

With the show, they have traveled all over the country, and they said it's about time they showed Savannah a little love in return.

Folks in Savannah are seeing stars…

River Street was lined with fans eager to catch a glimpse of their favorite show personalities.  Veteran judge, Randy Jackson says they like what they see…

"Savannah has like a whole different kind of vibe. We came in this morning and said, ‘what is going on in, Savannah?’ and Savannah arrived today and it's been amazing talent today."

This is the first time American Idol has stopped in Savannah, but a few of the cast members are not strangers to our area.

A few years back, Jennifer Lopez frequently stopped in.

"I’m always excited to come to Georgia. I was just was in Atlanta shooting a movie. I’ve spent a little bit of time in Savannah. It’s nice to be back. I love the southern hospitality down here and the food a little too much!"

Show host, Ryan Seacrest is a Georgia native, growing up just outside of Atlanta.

"I feel a little bit guilty being the same state as family and not seeing them this trip."

But the fans are happy they are here.

Steven Tyler says Savannah has been a great launch for the rest of the season.

"This morning, it’s phenomenal. The contestants walked in with personalities that beat their singing. And then we heard them sing, and just perfect."

Savannah was the stop for the very first judges’ elimination round.

Singers that had their chance in front of Randy, Jennifer, and Steven here in town had to make it through the first auditions in Charleston.

For all you Idol maniacs, the new season will air Sunday, January 22nd.
