Traffic in Downtown Savannah and over the Talmadge Bridge will be affected Saturday as Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police prepare for and protect the 2012 Savannah Bridge Run.
The Quarter-Mile Kids Run, 5K and 10K runs begin at 8 a.m., 8:15 a.m. and 9 a.m. respectively but police will start closing some streets at midnight to begin setting up for the race at 4 a.m.
Montgomery Street between Oglethorpe Avenue and Broughton Street will be closed from midnight until 10 a.m. and Montgomery between Oglethorpe and Liberty Street will be closed from midnight until noon.
The Kids Run takes place near the finish line at the Savannah Civic Center on Montgomery Street.
The 5K route starts on Hutchinson Island on Wayne Shackleford Boulevard, crosses under the Talmadge bridge and circles around up onto and over the bridge and down onto the Oglethorpe exit ramp. It continues east on Oglethorpe, south on Montgomery and finishes on Montgomery at the Savannah Civic Center.
The 10K route starts on Montgomery Street in front of the Chatham County Courthouse, proceeds north on Montgomery, east on Broughton, south on Habersham Street, west on Oglethorpe and up onto the bridge. The race then takes the Hutchinson Island exit and circles back underneath the bridge. The course follows the road back to the on-ramp to the bridge, crosses back over onto the Oglethorpe exit ramp and continues east on Oglethorpe and south on Montgomery. It also ends on Montgomery at the Civic Center.
The two inside lanes on the bridge will remain open for the duration of the race.
