Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. once said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is: '”What are you doing for others?'"
Today United Way and a variety of environmental groups partnered with the Westlake community to plant trees for a purpose and remember the civil rights icon.
The Westlake neighborhood has seen its share of hard times.
But thanks to the hard work of almost two hundred volunteers and many different environmental groups, its beginning to look more alive.
However, it's not all about the trees.
It’s the “United we Serve” weekend, a call to action by the President to do good in the community- a pre cursor to MLK day.
Even folks from Atlanta- King’s home town- got in on the action, joining together to make an impact on the neighborhood.
It’s legacy that like these trees, will grow stronger and deeper into the community over time.
Thanks to everyone's hard work this weekend, 250 trees were planted in the area.
Not only will the trees beautify and help the grounds of the neighborhood, but also serve as a reminder to always serve and do for others.
