Ridgeland Woman Fears Medicaid Cuts

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The state of South Carolina will soon make significant cuts to Medicaid.

The program is runing low on funds and has notified neighbors that their services will be changing.

Some programs -- including vision, dental, and hospice care for folks over the age of 21 -- will be completely eliminated, while others will be reduced.

Amanda Lamb of Ridgeland received a letter saying that her son's rehab visits will be cut by 75% and that's something she says can't happen.

"My son goes four times a week, two for occupational therapy and twice for speech therapy for Sensory Integration Disorder."

She says therapy has really helped him.

"He has problems processing his surroundings, its easy for him to get really frustrated, throw temper tantrums, stuff like that. He's got a really bad speech delay that they are working really hard on."

Lamb says his progress has been amazing to watch. and that she is fearful of him regressing.

"He's only been in the aggressive therapies like this for three months now, and he's made so much progress that, its almost scary, that if they cutback on this, he can actually revert back, and actually lose some of the skills that he just learned."

She says these changes were initially supposed to take effect February 1st...but have been pushed to April.
