(Savannah, Ga.) Roiesha Parker known as Ro has made great strides in Project Search.
Skills she learned in Central Supply at Candler Hospital opened the window of opportunity for her.
"I come in at 6 o'clock in the morning. I clock in.
I go outside and I choose a cart like which floor do we have to order for first."
She's been here all school year and has packed knowledge in supply pickup and stocking the operating room.
Determination and will power gained "Ro" a job here.
Her co-workers and supervisors call her a burst of sunshine.
"She's very happy. She wants to work, and she wants to do everything correctly. She works independently. She has a great attitude. We don't see Ro as anybody with a disability."
Ro says the chance to work here helped her gain confidence.
"Even though you shouldn't say it but I always say I can't and so I feel like I've conquered that a lot because I don't say it as much as I used to."
Hired in April, Ro loves her job, and her goal is to keep up the good work.
"If I give it my all then it will be perfect. So I knew I could do it."
28 students including Roiesha Parker have graduated from Project Search since the program began in 2008.
They've all been hired in the community.
7 of them have jobs with Saint Joseph's/Candler.
Other Project Search sponsors include Coastal Center for Developmental Services and The Georgia Department of Labor Vocational Rehabilitation Program.
