A Port Royal three-year-old attacked by a pit bull last month is still recovering. Thanks to some caring neighbors, though, there are a lot of high notes along the way.
Former kindergarten teacher Chris Taggart believes every child was born to read. In fact, she's president of a group that bears that name, which delivers children’s books to new mothers a day after they deliver.
"We give them a gift bag,” Taggart said. “It has two books for the baby and other literacy materials to encourage them to talk, read, sing nursery rhymes with their children and limit TV."
But when Taggart started following three-year-old Daniella's story on WSAV, she felt an urge to make a special delivery.
"When I saw her on TV I thought just how very smart she was,” Taggart said. “She's very verbal for a three-year-old and I thought she might enjoy some books."
The gift of both English and Spanish books gives Daniella another opportunity to go through a routine she really enjoys.
"When someone brings you a present what do you tell them?” we asked Daniella. “’Thank you’ and give them a hug and kisses,” she responded.
Daniella goes back to the hospital next week for surgery on her ear.
