COLUMBIA, S.C. - The U.S. Census Bureau is expected to release detailed information about the more than 4.5 million people living in South Carolina.
The data scheduled to be released Wednesday will include information on the racial breakdown of the state's residents and where they live.
The Census Bureau says South Carolina's population jumped 12 percent in the past decade to 4,561,242 people. The growth was enough to give the state a seventh U.S. House district.
The governor and state lawmakers were given the census data Tuesday. Legislators will use the information to draw the new congressional district as well as districts for the state House and Senate.
