The Shriners children's hospitals are getting a boost from a Savannah tradition.
The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee sold more than 240 "Walter Crawford's Cuz Club," pins, raising $1,210.
Grand Marshal Walter Crawford was on hand to present a check to officials from the Alee Shrine Wednesday.
Crawford's theme for the 2011 parade was "Welcome, Cousins", hence "The Cuz Club", but the idea behind selling the pins was much more personal.
"My wife passed away March 9 unexpectedly," said Michael Roush, a member of both the Alee Shrine and the parade committee, "and we have a lot of friends in the parade committee as well as the shrine. Walter being the Grand Marshal heard about this, and he said let's do it in Carole's name... As soon as they did that the pins sold like wildfire."
The Roush family matched the donation, and all of that money is going to the Shriners hospital in Tampa.
