Tybee Island is being recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a bicycle-friendly community.
The island town had to go through a special evaluation and local cyclists were consulted before Tybee could receive the distinction.
Tybee Island is one of 179 communities in 44 states that is recognized by the League and one of only two communities in Georgia to receive the honor.
Roswell, north of Atlanta, is the other.
"This is quite an honor for our little community," said Tybee Island Mayor Jason Buelterman. "We are proud to be the second city in the state of Georgia to receive this designation and plan on continuing to work towards the highest level of accreditation as a bike-friendly community."
Tybee's residents and visitors enjoy the islands bike lanes as well as biking trails that stretch for miles and miles.
In order to be selected as a bike-friendly community by the League of American Bicyclists, the town must have plenty of paths, bike racks and parking, officials said.
