A Fort Stewart soldier is charged with the murder of a 3-year-old.
The investigation into the death of the Hinesville child resulted in the arrest of Trevor Thomas Cushman-Clifton on Thursday night.
Hinesville Police Department Chief of Detectives, Major Thomas Cribbs said Journey Richardson was in the soldier's care at the time of her death.
An incident report was filed on July 27 by Officer John F. Williams. Williams was dispatched to the home in the 600 block of First Street on reports of an unresponsive child.
According to the report, Clifton told him he was engaged to the child's mother and caring for her when he heard a loud noise come from the girl's bedroom.
The report indicates that Clifton told Officer Williams he found Journey unresponsive and tried to revive her before calling 911.
When emergency medical personnel arrived they attempted to revive the child, and later transported her to Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart where Journey was pronounced dead.
Her body was transported to the GBI crime lab in Savannah where an autopsy was performed. Cribbs said while the final report has not been issued, Clifton has been charged with murder and cruelty to a child. Cribbs Said, "Thorough interviews and the child suffering from blunt force trauma we had enough evidence to charge him."
Journey according to Cribbs had been taken to the hospital several times by her mother complaining of being sick and was treated and released.
Clifton is being housed at the Liberty County Regional Jail in Hinesville. Morgan Richardson, who is also assigned to Fort Stewart, will not face any charges in the case according to Cribbs.
