King America Finishing recently agreed to a consent order with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) to resolve allegations that the company violated its water discharge permit and Georgia water quality regulations because of certain operations at its plant in Dover, Ga.
Under the consent order, the company will submit two Supplemental Environmental Projects to the EPD for review. One will be a plan to undertake water-related, environmentally beneficial projects totaling at least $1 million in the Ogeechee River watershed.
The other is a plan that analyzes the plant’s wastewater treatment system to determine whether any system improvements are necessary.
The company’s attorneys say they are not aware of any operations by King America Finishing that would have adversely affected water quality or the fish in the Ogeechee River and that the company “has been a good corporate citizen and environmental steward since we began operations in Southeast Georgia nearly 10 years ago."
In a response to WSAV, they say they are doing everything they can to make sure the Ogeechee River is protected since employees and their families treasure the Ogeechee River.
