Several members of the MacPhail family attended the execution of Troy Davis late Wednesday night. Davis was convicted for the 1989 slaying off off duty police officer Mark MacPhail. The MacPhail family members who saw Davis die did not comment after the execution.
However, Annelise MacPhail, the mother of the slain officer did talk to CNN at her home in Columbus, Georgia.
When asked if justice had been served, Mrs. MacPhail replied, " In my mind yes. In my mind it has it taken a long time to get some but it really does in my mind. There is no reason to celebrate or do anything because it is not good for both families. I'm sure his family is suffering terribly right now, too. That's the way he did it, that's the way it ends now, and that was not our doing."
The MacPhail family steadfastly believed Davis was guilty of pulling the trigger 22 years ago, despite claims to the contrary from the defense who said that after many recanted their testimony, there was too much doubt to kill Davis.
