(Savannah, GA) Think about this. 1 in three children in the United States is overweight or obese. The American Heart Association says as a result, more kids than ever before are developing high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and type 2 diabetes.
Healthy habits like exercise will help today's children grow up to be healthy adults.
Get out, get active, and get your heart pumping-- a message they're taking seriously at Blessed Sacrament School.
"We try to encourage them to exercise at least an hour a day. We'll be out here for 2 hours today exercising, jumping rope. It's very important that they exercise. We're having fun and we're raising money so it's a win win situation," says Kirk Dixon.
As students show off their jump rope skills they're not only getting a good work out.
These fancy moves are about longevity, and quality of life.
They have their hearts in the right place to support themselves and other.
"To raise money for people with heart disease and stroke," says Brian Guidera.
"It's a nice thing to do and you wanna help them get better," says Sarah Shine.
Moving your body with dance, and physical activity will add time to your life.
"I walk my dog, or my mom does a lot of marathons so I'll run with her," says Sarah.
Last year Blessed Sacrament students raised 12-thousand dollars for The American Heart Association research and education.
