The end of a long personal journey and the end of an era in the Chatham County judicial system came yesterday when Chief Recorder's Court Judge Lawrence "Larry" Dillon passed away.
Judge Dillon was 77 and died Sunday of cancer. "He had been sick for a long time. He was resilient, he would have good days and bad days. Dad passed peacefully," says his daughter Glenda Eloge.
Judge Dillon was one of the longest tenured judges at the Chatham County Courthouse- serving more than 23 years on the bench.
Judge Dillon over several high profile cases. He was the Recorder’s Court Judge who heard preliminary matters the murder trial of Miss Savannah several years ago.
"He was a gentle and loving man with a kind heart that he extended to everyone. He was a judge of the people and for the people," The Dillon Family.
Judge Lawrence "Larry" Dillon was born on November 5, 1934. He became a judge in 1989 and was set to retire at the end of this year.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church on Montgomery Cross Road.
The Rosary is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
