(Savannah, GA) What are you doing to improve your health?
Here's some of the best advice.
Try eating better. It's important to make exercise a part of your life.
Saying no to smoking is another key, and be sure to keep your cholesterol and high blood pressure in check.
In our health question from facebook- Pam writes- What preventative measures can be taken for women who have a family history of heart disease from both parents?
Dr. Lucas Lewin of St. Joseph's/Candler says for one you should visit your general doctor.
"And check your cholesterol. Do a baseline study of your heart and do an electro cardiogram and if the situation is serious you should even have a cardiological evaluation with the proper measures."
heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S.
The condition can be silent or give you small clues.
So sometimes back pain, indigestion could be related to the heart and as I said women are very tough. they ignore them and for a time that the real heart attack comes is sometimes unfortunately too late."
Dr. Lewin says just because your parents have heart disease doesn't mean you're going to have a heart attack. Just be cautious - don't smoke and take care of your cholesterol.
