Lowcountry Couple Raising Money For Granddaughter

»  Comments | Post a Comment

John and Ginny Sisto, of Bluffton, need your help. They're raising money to help their granddaughter Michelle, receive a new treatment for her neurological Lyme disease.

"There is a new treatment that her doctors feel that she would be responsive to, and the only problem is, is that it's in Germany, and now we or they have the added expenses of flight, hotel, meals, the doctor, and the treatment there. the treatment alone is $25,000," said Ginny Sisto.

Over the past five years, Lyme disease has put a stranglehold on the family's finances. Her medical bills can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and not only is it expensive, it's taken over Michelle's life.

"Some of the symptoms that I have are head pressure, pressure at the top of my head that's almost like a headband feeling, that would travel to the back of my head and it would also travel to the front of my face, so it feels like my face is drooped down. It wasn't drooped, but it felt like that. It can also travel to my ear, and it would be swollen and red and painful," said Michelle McKeon.

She also experiences vertigo, inner-ear problems, fatigue, and anxiety, and it's been hard for everyone to see her go through this.

"We spent a month with her just this past fall, and I had no idea, neither of us did, of just how serious Lyme is, and what it can do to people you know," said John Sisto.

The treatment uses hypothermia to kill the disease, and although it will be a long and expensive trip, she's just excited to have the chance at a normal life.

"This is really hopeful, you know, because after talking to people that are as sick as I am or sicker, they got their life back, and that's just a really exciting feeling that after I have been sick for so long I can start doing normal things and feel good and get back into the swing of things," said McKeon.

This could be a life-changing treatment for Michelle, and her family is asking for any help you can give.

If you want to help Michelle get this treatment, you can visit her website at www.fundforhope.bbnow.org to find out how you can donate to her cause.
