16 Dogs From Savannah Hoarding Case Go To Bluffton Rescue Group

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Savannah hoarding case we've been reporting on this week left Animal Control dealing with 71 dogs.

Thankfully, several rescue groups did what they do best -- and came to the rescue!

A few of those are in the Lowcountry – one of those is Brooke’s Bed & Biscuit where they took in 16 of the dogs.

If looking cute can get these doggies adopted, it's safe to say they're going to be just fine.

"They're really coming out of their shells and they're really sweet,” Brooke Fisher, owner of Brooke’s Bed & Biscuit said.

Brooke Fisher runs Brooke’s Bed & Biscuit first as a boarding kennel, but she allots space for rescues.  The owner of six herself, it's hard to turn them down.

"If someone calls and needs help, I do what I can to try to help them out,” she said.

So when she got an urgent call from Chatham County Animal Control Monday with the story of 71 dogs living in their own filth inside a Savannah home, she agreed to take 16 off their hands.

"They've never been outside. The man kept them inside their whole lives, so the only major issue is going to be potty training,” she said.

Her goal now is getting them the care they need -- rabies shots, dewormed, having them spayed or neutered- important procedures that come with a cost.

"It's pretty expensive. I'm having them spayed or neutered next week, and each one is going to cost me about $150,” she said.

Luckily there are some big hearts in the Lowcountry for little pups, and several neighbors have dropped off donations -- though she could certainly use more.  And while she's falling in love, Brooke's comforted by the calls that confirm this is only their temporary home.

"The phones have just been going crazy and I've had a lot of people visiting, and I believe I have applications on four or five of them right now,” she said.

Brooke says this is the second hoarding case she's rescued dogs from.  A few years ago, more than 150 Chihuahuas were in one home, and she took in some of those.
