»  Comments | Post a Comment

A passenger in a private-owned ambulance died in a crash this morning in the Lowcountry.  It happened around 11:15 in Sheldon.  Beaufort County Assistant Coroner David Ott says 57-year-old Blandelle Gary died and two others, including the driver were flown for care.  Another was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.  The driver and the passenger were wearing seatbelts.  The other two were seated in the back of the ambulance.  The South Carolina Highway Patrol said when the driver of the ambulance, Eugene Kirkland, ran off Old Sheldon Church Road, he overcorrected and struck a tree.  The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol and the Patrols’ MAIT TEAM (Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team).
