“Hi there, how are we doing?” calls out Bill Pollard to customers.
It’s not just the tasty treats at The Ice Cream Stop in Richmond Hill that keeps people coming ...its Mister Bill.
“Do you think you want that in a cup or a cone?” asks Bill.
Serving up more than thirty flavors and thousands of smiles every day - its obvious Bill loves his job.
“You know it’s just great to everyday come to work and you get to see there are 3000 people smiling at you everyday.”
He's referring to the wall of photos encircling his shop....not just of two legged customers but also some out of the ordinary.
“At last count, 78 dogs, 1 bird, 1 cat, 1 horse, I know there are three more horses coming that have been eating our ice cream, 2 of them are service dogs, there are stuffed animals Jenny who is a Giraffe and there is also a Lion, Leo the Lion.”
And don't forget rock stars...
Who should walk in but Gregg Allman, an Ice Cream Stop regular who even has a flavor named after him…“Coconut Allman Joy.“
Ordering a shake each time... Gregg tells me he likes it “thick enough to wear out a good set of lips.“
While it's pretty neat to scoop ice cream for a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer - Bill says he loves all of his customers, famous or not...most of whom are usually in a good mood.
“People like to come in when they are rewarded or a good part of a bribe or just doing something good.”
Not just an ice cream shop - Bill has worked to make this a destination...
Hoping folks will make this their next stop in “Our Hometown” of Richmond Hill.
The Ice Cream Stop is located off Highway 144 in Richmond Hill behind Publix's.
In addition to serving in up treats they also show movies every Saturday night out back and have story time every Tuesday at 1:15.
