It gets its name from the year it was constructed.
But it's reputation is built on stories of the super natural. Welcome to 17Hundred90, said to be Savannah's oldest, most haunted hotel. Nathan and Patrick Godley are owners of this historic inn. "Most of the guests are excited when they experience some kind of presence in the night." Through the years, it's been a popular hub for ordinary folks and a few celebrities. "Many years ago, I'm told that this was Jackie Onasis' favorite restaurant. The bar was a backdrop in Bert Reynolds move, Gator. But it's biggest claim to fame is what's often seen and heard after dark. "Weird and strange things happen here.I don't think I believe in ghosts, but I will tell you... some bizarre things have happened to us." There are tales of spirits lurking these halls. "Guests report being nudged in the night." Stories that have stirred the curiosity of tourists near and far. "There's a little boy ghost who lives on the ground floor whose name is Thaddeus... and Thaddeus leaves us shiny pennies." Some come to dine... others to spend the night in one of the inn's fourteen living quarters hoping to have a close encounter of their own. The most requested room is 204. "The basic ghost story is that there was a young servant girl who was working here. "She is said to have fallen in love with a young sailor who was staying here in the boarding house and they had planned to elope and run away together. But either he leaves her behind on his own or perhaps the man who ran the boarding house locked her in room 204 so that she couldn't run away. Either way, she is said to have jumped to her death and committed suicide." Legend has it that some still hear Anna's voice... or see her apparition in the top floor window. "Our most recent, most famous guest was Miley Cyrus. She came and stayed. "Before they went to bed, they had an early call time movie shoot and they set clothes out for the next day and Miley left her boots on the inside of her suitcase. When they got up in the morning, her boots were on top of her suitcase and one of them had a wet hand print on it." Cyrus snapped a picture and took her tale to Twitter. "Our phones didn't stop ringing for the next two weeks." While the Godleys say they can't explain the strange goings on behind these walls- they won't complain. Because at least in this inn... what's good for the ghost is also good for business. As you can imagine, October is a busy month for the folks at 17 hundred 90. On halloween weekend alone, they average around a thousand visitors stopping by just to hear ghost stories. 17Hundred90 offers a Haunted Dinner Tour which features exclusive access to the upper floors of the inn and a meal that the owners say is to die for.
