Sneak Peak of Forsyth’s Newest Addition

If you’ve driven in Downtown Savannah recently, chances are you’ve noticed the new big white band shell in Forsyth Park. It’s being met with a wide variety of reactions, its part of Forsyth Park’s latest addition, though it’s not set to open for a couple more weeks.
News Three’s Community Reporter Alice Massimi got a sneak peek at the city’s new entertainment venue.

For years the Fort at Forsyth just sat. Encircled by metal fencing it was crumbling bit by bit.
“This was a fort built of sort of as a dummy fort for maneuvers to train soldiers during World War One and was left here several years unattended,” explains Marty Johnston with the City of Savannah.
Then a couple years ago a plan was hatched, armed with various forms of funding, a new life for the fort was set in motion.
Inside is now a wide open, bright space…  display cases will soon showcase delectable goodies cooked up by The Mansion on Forsyth…
“You can get a sandwich, a breakfast roll. Have a piece of pizza, get a coke or a cold beer and enjoy this area of the park,” points out Johnston.
With seating inside and out it will offer people a chance to relax.
Also on our tour, “this is the ladies room and this is the leather lounge furniture.”
Now we don’t usually talk about bathrooms on the news but this one has already created a reputation of being the nicest public bathroom in the area.
Taking several years to complete, it could be said the crowning glory is this band shell. The first concert to be held here will be Savannah’s Jazz Fest.
The shell will improve acoustics but there will be more than concerts, Johnston says the sky is the limit, from dinners to wedding receptions it will be a true multi purpose facility.
Creating an experience like none other in Savannah…
The Forsyth Fort will officially open on December 18th.
The cafe won’t open until sometime after New Year’s.
