In the struggling economy, many people are finding it hard to finance their homes. Last year 860,000 properties were repossessed across the United States. But good news is in sight. Consumer Credit Counseling Services and Georgia Legal Servicces Program have received $274,133 in federal funds through NeighborWorks America, as a result of a one-time Congressional appropriation. Also, Step Up Savannah, Inc. received a $200,000 grant over two years time from AIG to support financial counseling and financial education for consumers. This grant money will be used to help two nonprofit organizations respond to home foreclosures. Area leaders met at St. Mary’s Community Center Friday morning to discuss foreclosure solutions.

Free financial counseling is available for residents of Chatham, Liberty, and Bryan Counties, as well as the lowcountry.

Georgia ranks among the top five states in US home foreclosures.
