Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have charged the driver of a recreational vehicle that was involved in a motor vehicle crash Friday evening in Effingham County on Highway 17.

Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have charged the driver of a recreational vehicle that was involved in a motor vehicle crash Friday evening in Effingham County on Highway 17.  Bart Williams, 47, of Bloomingdale, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, too fast for conditions, and failure to maintain lane.  According to witnesses, the driver of the RV was traveling north on Highway 17 at a high rate of speed and swerving in and out of lanes. Williams flipped his RV before deputies arrived on scene. No other injuries were reported. Highway 17 between Bluejay Road and Courthouse road was closed for several hours as crews cleared the scene. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone that deputies will be out in full force enforcing all traffic laws including impaired drivers, seat belt violations, and looking for aggressive drivers. Deputies will also be participating in road safety check points throughout the next several weeks.
