3RD Infantry Division Trains for New Mission to Iraq

The mission for the Third Infantry Division’s upcoming deployment to Iraq has changed.
Leading the invasion into the country seven years ago they are now charged with rebuilding the country.
One of their tasks will be helping to develop infrastructure such as sanitation, water and sewer services. Because these soldiers are rather un familiar with these areas they met with the City of Savannah’s Sanitation Bureau for some help.
“We are trying to partner with the local communities so we can understand how we do civil capacity in the United States so as we deploy and we are working with the Iraqi government we at least have a basic understanding of how those missions work,” explains the First Brigades Commander Colonel Roger Cloutier.
Members of the First Brigade will also visit a fish farm, a sewage treatment plant and a water treatment plant.
They’re expected to deploy at the end of this year.
