Sunday’s homecoming at Fort Stewart was also an extra special moment for two soldiers.

Sgt. Paul Roberts and Sgt. Garry Thompson got to re-join the 549th Military Police Company at the homecoming ceremony.

Both suffered injuries during the company’s deployment in Afghanistan.

Today they were reunited with their fellow soldiers for the first time since being injured.

“Relief. If I’d sat there, like I told the other guys. if i had sat there and saw the wheels hit the ground, and the smoke get out of it and me turn around and leave at that point time, I’d been happy. The rest of it’s just icing on the cake. All I wanted to do was see them come home,“ said Thompson.

“It’s outstanding. The last time I seen a lot of, a lot of my guys I was on my back and they were carrying me to the Medevac, so I haven’t seen anybody since I got hit on the second of June, so I’m just happy to be back with them,“ said Roberts.
