Flood Warning Update
The flood warning for the Canoochee River near Claxton affecting Evans County has been cancelled. Flood stage is 11.0 feet. The river dropped below flood stage Wednesday afternoon.
A flood warning continues for the Satilla River at Atkinson affecting Brantley County as well as at Waycross affecting Pierce and Ware Counties. Major flooding is occurring and expected to continue at Atkinson. Moderate flooding is occurring along the Satilla River at Waycross and moderate flooding is forecast to continue.
At 11:30 am Wednesday the Satilla River at Waycross had a stage of 19.6 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 16.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue falling, and should be below flood stage by early Sunday morning.
At 10:45 am Wednesday the Satilla River at Atkinson had a stage of 22.7 feet. Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast to continue. Flood stage is 13.0 feet. The river will continue to fall to a stage of 21.8 feet by Thursday morning. 23.6 feet is the height of the 100 year flood.
A flood warning continues for the Ocmulgee River near Abbeville affecting Dodge, Telfair, and Wilcox Counties as well as near Lumber City affecting Montgomery, Telfair, and Wheeler Counties.
At 9 pm Wednesday the Ocmulgee River near Lumber City had a stage of 18.9 feet and was steady. Moderate flooding is occurring and will continue. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. The river will remain near 18.9 feet and then begin falling by after midnight. At 18.0 feet, moderate flooding begins. Flooding of access road to boat ramp near Highway 341 bridge occurs.
At 6 pm Wednesday the Ocmulgee River near Abbeville had a stage of 16.3 feet and was steady. Moderate flooding will continue. Flood stage is 12.0 feet. The river is forecast to fall to 15.7 feet by Friday morning. At 16.0 feet, flooding of farm lands, timberlands, and access roads will occur.
A flood warning continues for the Oconee River near Dublin affecting Johnson, Laurens, Washington, and Wilcox Counties; near Oconee affecting Johnson, Washington, and Wilkinson Counties as well as near Mount Vernon affecting Montgomery, Treutlen, and Wheeler Counties.
At 9 pm Wednesday the Oconee River near Dublin had a stage of 21.8 feet and falling. Minor flooding is occurring and will continue. Flood stage is 21.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue falling to below flood stage by Thursday morning. At 22.0 feet, minor flooding continues of low areas and woodlands near the river. Portions of some dirt river access roads will begin to flood.
At 9 pm Wednesday the Oconee River near Mount Vernon had a stage of 19.4 feet and was steady. Minor flooding is occurring and will continue. Flood stage is 16.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue falling to below flood stage by Sunday evening. At 19.0 feet, minor flooding continues. The boat ramp parking lot becomes flooded out on Wheeler County side of the Oconee River.
A flood warning continues for the following Altamaha River at Doctortown affecting Wayne County, minor flooding is occurring at Doctortown. A flood warning is also in effect for the river at Baxley affecting Appling and Toombs counties and at Charlotte affecting Jeff Davis, Montgomery, and Toombs counties, moderate flooding is occurring at Baxley and Charlotte.
At 11:00 am Wednesday the Altamaha River at Doctortown had a stage of 14.1 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 14.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue rising to near 14.7 feet by Sunday early afternoon then begin falling. At 15.0 feet, water affects yards in Pen Hollow area.
At 10:30 am Wednesday the Altamaha River at Charlotte had a stage of 22.7 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. The river is forecast to continue rising to near 22.8 feet on Wednesday, then begin falling. At 23.0 feet, water begins to move into homes in Towns Bluff.
At 11:00 am Wednesday the Altamaha River at Baxley had a stage of 82.8 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 74.5 feet. The river is forecast to continue rising to near 83.1 feet by Thursday evening then begin falling. At 82.0 feet, Davis Landing Road and Morris Landing Road are flooded.
A flood warning continues for the Savannah River near Clyo affecting Hampton and Jasper Counties in South Carolina as well as Screven and Effingham counties in Georgia.
At 9 pm the Savannah River near Clyo had a stage of 11.2 feet and falling. Minor flooding is occurring. Flood stage is 11 feet. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by late Thursday morning. At 11.0 feet, the back yards of several homes on Tom Goethe Road flood.
The flood warning continues for the Ogeechee River near Midville affecting Burke, Jenkins, and Emanuel Counties as well as near Eden affecting Effingham and Bryan Counties.
At 9 pm Wednesday the Ogeechee River near Midville had a stage of 6.7 feet and falling. Minor flooding is occurring. Flood stage is 6 feet. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by early Friday morning. At 6.0 feet, water begins to flood the river access road.
At 9 pm Wednesday the Ogeechee River near Eden had a stage of 13.4 feet and rising. Moderate flooding is occurring. Flood stage is 11 feet. The river is forecast to rise to 14.1 feet by Thursday afternoon. The river will then begin to fall early next week. At 14.0 feet, Loves Seafood and Steak Restaurant at Highway 17 begins to flood. Homes near the end of Dashers Landing Road near Eden become flooded.
A flood warning continues for the Ohoopee River near Reidsville affecting Tattnall County.
At 9 pm Wednesday the Ohoopee River near Reidsville had a stage of 16.1 feet and falling. Moderate flooding is occurring. Flood stage is 11 feet. The river is forecast to fall to 13.8 feet by Friday morning, and then fall below flood stage by late Sunday night. At 16 feet, water enters the yards of homes in the Joy Bluff community. Houses become isolated and boats are necessary for access.
Safety message, residents and those with interests along these rivers should take action to protect threatened property. High and fast flowing rivers are not suitable for recreation of any kind. Keep children away from flooded areas. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. Turn around, don`t drown.
