Isolated Severe Storms Possible Tonight
A cold front will advance into a hot and humid airmass over southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s with heat indices in the 104 to 108 degree range this afternoon. This cold front could combine with the sea breeze to produce a few thunderstorms mainly along and south of Interstate 16 and along the South Carolina coast. Conditions will become favorable for isolated severe thunderstorms, producing damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail the size of pennies or larger as well as heavy downpours and dangerous lightning strikes. Any thunderstorms that develop over land could push into coastal waters with strong winds and hail. The greatest potential for severe thunderstorms will occur between 5 pm and 11 pm Thursday.
