Thunderstorm and Tornado Watches for Saturday Morning
A tornado watch is in effect for the following counties in Georgia: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Baker, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Calhoun, Clay, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Dougherty, Early, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Pierce, Quitman, Randolph, Terrell, Tift, Turner, Ware, Wayne, and Worth until 4 am Saturday.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the following Georgia counties: Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Evans, Jenkins, Screven, and Tattnall as well as for these South Carolina counties: Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper, Berkeley, Charleston, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg until 6 am Saturday.
Strong storms will continue into the overnight hours. These storms have a history of showing rotation on radar and can spawn tornadoes. In addition to the tornado threat, these storms have produced quarter size hail and damaging winds as well as frequent cloud to ground lightning.
The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. If you do not have a basement, go to an interior room without windows on the lowest level of your home.
