CARIBBEAN: British police make 'significant' arrest in hunt for serial rapist who preyed on elderly

LONDON (AP) British police hunting a burglar and rapist suspected of attacking more than 100 elderly women and men over the last two decades say they have made a significant arrest.

London's Metropolitan Police say they arrested a 52-year-old man over the attacks early Sunday. He is in custody at a London police station.

Police say that since 1990 the suspect allegedly broke into the homes of more than 90 women and several men aged between 68 and 93. Some of the victims were raped or sexually assaulted.

The attacks all took place in south London and the surrounding area and often were separated by several years.

In 2006 detectives traveled to Trinidad and Barbados after DNA testing suggested the rapist might have Caribbean ancestry.
