An Apple for the Teacher, a Chevy Cobalt for the Student
Published: September 14, 2009
Savannah, GA - Going to school just got sweeter for high school seniors in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. Students at over 31 schools in 20 area are eligible to participate in the Chevy Drive for Perfection Program. Drive for Perfection, an initiative presented by the Savannah area Chevrolet Dealers in conjunction with the local School Boards, will award one lucky student with a new 2010 Chevy Cobalt sedan for having perfect attendance during the 2009-2010 school year.
According to the US Department of Education, students who have poor attendance for reasons other than illness are also more likely to drop out and to fall behind their peers in the classroom. Now in its second year, the Chevy Drive for Perfection Program was created to give seniors an additional incentive to finish their high school careers strong, in order to adequately prepare themselves for post-secondary education or the workforce.
“Literacy and education are two initiatives that the local Chevrolet dealers champion,” said Jane Thacher, Chevrolet Local Marketing Association President. “The Georgia Department of Education is charged with the significant task of educating the state’s youth, and our local Chevy dealers are honored to provide support to them and the high schools in our communities.”
At the completion of the program, qualifying students will be placed on a list and a drawing will be held to select the winner of the car. Perfect attendance will be determined by an eligible student’s attendance record for the first 180 days of the 2009-2010 school year as submitted by the Local Education Agencies.
