Parents Want Programs For Gifted Students Retained Despite Cuts
A new bill would free school districts from government mandates and allow them to spend state dollars as they choose. As the law stands now, districts are required to spend state funds on specific programs and must use certain amounts of that money for specific purposes, such as instructional materials or salaries.

The Beaufort County School District will launch an emergency notification system during the next several weeks that can alert parents of the district’s 19,000 students in less than an hour by phone, text and e-mail.
