The Love Guru

It's been a while since Mike Myers has starred in a movie but he's back this weekend in the comedy 'The Love Guru.'

Yes, that's indeed Sir Ben Kingsley, not Howie Mandel as a cross-eyed guru, talking to Mike Myers head, at least, in an early scene from "The Love Guru."

He's supposedly the son of missionaries who grew up in India.

Now Toronto born Myers in real life is a hockey nut and he co-wrote this convoluted story about a Toronto Maple Leaf star whose game has suffered after his wife's dumped him for another player, and the guru has been hired by the team to send some love the way of the heartbroken star.

And Mini Me from the Austin Powers movie turns up, played of course by Verne Troyer, who here is the coach of the Maple Leaves.

Justin Timberlake is the rival player complete with French Canadian accent who’s stolen away the wife of the Maple Leaf star.

And the humor here turns silly but occasionally it's undeniably funny.

Jessica Alba is the owner of the team and the potential love interest for the guru, who's an obvious master of the sitar.

Movie critic Jeffrey Lyons said, "The Love Guru" is occasionally hysterical, but mostly amusing.

It's 87 minute running time is mercifully short, given the one-joke premise, and perhaps to defray the thought that this is a racist stereotype character, the presence of sir Ben Kingsley (afterall his real name is Krishna Banki) and Deepak Chopra will probably calm your fears.
