Action adventure films take on a new dimension this weekend with the release of "Journey to the Center of the Earth".

The film will be shown in many theaters in the newest variation of 3-D.

The script alone was almost enough to sell Brendan Fraser on doing "Journey to the Center of the Earth".

Then, he found out it would be made in digital 3-D and got a demonstration.

"I drank the Kool-Aaid," said Fraser. "I don't know how else to say it. I was so blown away. It was so cool! And I went I'm in."

3-D films have been around since the fifties, but this is the first live action film using all digital 3-D, known as "Real-D", complete with normal looking glasses.

Fraser says it really will be rollercoaster ride for audiences.

"For instance, there's a mine car runaway sequence, homage to Spielberg, but it seriously rivals anything you've seen before because you seriously feel like you're on a mine car," he said.

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" could be the first of as many as 30 major 3-D releases in the next two years.

About 1,400 theaters around the country are equipped to show the film in 3-D.
