It’s jungle fever for a group of ten celebrities as they try out last each other in the wilds of Costa Rica.
That’s the basis for the new reality series beginning Monday night on NBC, “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!“
It airs live just about every weeknight over the next three weeks.
The British sitcom “The Office” made the transition to the U.S and “Britain’s Got Talent” also morphed into an American success.
Now, the British appetite for watching celebrities eat gross stuff and engage in daredevil jungle stunts makes the transatlantic leap.
“I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here” features former NBA star John Salley as a contestant.
“My lawyer thought I was crazy. My assistant thinks I’m crazy. My wife to this point still thinks I’m crazy,“ said Salley.
MTV lovebirds Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are also in the mix for this live, nightly survival challenge.
American Idol curiosity Sanjaya and wrestling diva Torrie Wilson are also among ten celebrities being dropped in the middle of a Costa Rican jungle.
“This is a great time for me to get back to my roots, even though I wasn’t born in Costa Rica!“ said Wilson.
Ousted Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was also set to take part but a judge said no.
So now, his wife, Patti’s, taking his place.
“He’s doing the things I usually do, making the kids lunch for School, taking the dog out,“ said Patty Blagojevich.
Meanwhile, she tries to outlast the others in a charity competition.
“Chicago politics is a treacherous place sometimes. Blood sport, can’t imagine I’ll find anything in the jungle worse,“ Blagojevich said.
It’s not been announced yet what the celebrities are being paid for their participation, nor the amount of money that will go to charity.
Among the other celebrities included in the mix are actor Lou Diamond Phillips and model Janyce Dickinson.
