Medicine meets reality on the new hospital drama “Mercy”.

“Everything in our show will really happen, can really happen, has really
happened,“ said one of the series’ stars, Michelle Trachtenberg.

The show follows the professional and personal lives of three very different nurses.

“Just when you think oh, she’s this type of character, oh she’s the tough girl,
she’s the new girl, she’s the sexy girl, it all turns on itself and each of us
reveal something you weren’t expecting,“ said another one of the series’ stars,
Jamie Lee Kirchner.  She plays Nurse Sonia Jimenez.

Trachtenberg plays the rookie nurse, Chloe Payne.

“There’s a lot of firsts for Chloe,“ the actress explained.

But firsts came a while ago for Nurse Jimenez.

“She’s like there’s gotta be more than this,“ said Kirchner, in describing her character.  “There’s gotta be more than what’s just around me that I’ve been in for so long.“

The surroundings take a little getting used to for Nurse Veronica Callahan, who’s
just back from Iraq, and played by Taylor Schilling.

“While she was at war, there was almost like this blossoming, coming into herself, learning how capable was,“ explained the actress.

And the doctor who helped that process follows Veronica back stateside.

“We establish this bond,“ explained actor James Tupper, who plays Dr. Chris Sands. “It wasn’t sexual.  It was a friendship. It was a needing to have someone to relate to in a really high stress situation to try to stay human.“

The nurses of “Mercy” face that same challenge every day.

“They’re real, relatable and flawed,“ Schilling offered.

Those qualities are shared by characters in the series, “Friday Night Lights”, which was the previous writing home of “Mercy” creator Liz Heldens.
