Are You Ready to Rest?
Not getting enough sleep can affect your quality of life by impairing your immune system, making it hard to concentrate or even triggering headaches. If you want to get more sleep, setting the stage for a good night's sleep may be the best way to start. Here are some ideas:
-Turn off the lights, the TV and the laptop when you're getting ready for bed.
-Eliminate caffeine from your diet.
-Try exercising regularly in the morning or afternoon (but not close to bedtime; it can actually wake you up).
-Eat dinner at least three hours before you get in bed.
-Bedtime snacks aren't just for kids! Choose a bedtime snack that is high in carbohydrates (cereal and milk, or a bagel) for a serotonin boost that will help you drift off to sleep.
-Some foods can help boost your ability to sleep, such as leafy green vegetables that are rich in chlorophyll, whole grain breads and cereals, and mushrooms and fruits, especially berries.
