Do you want to lose weight and eat healthier?
If your answer is "yes" than you may need a menu makeover.
Whether you're a "drive-thru diva" or a "sensible snacker", there is always room for improvement.
Lisa Nunes is a single, working mother of three.
She's always on the go.
And that's how she eats.
"A typical breakfast would be a quad venti mocha and a scone from Starbucks," said Nunes.
For lunch she grabs an egg salad sandwich.
Dinner is drive thru.
"I get a quarter pounder with cheese french fries and a soda," said Nunes.
But it all adds up.
Lisa's calorie total for the day: a whopping 3,016.
More than half from fat!
So Lisa asked body firm nutritionist Tammy Parkinson to give her menu a makeover.
Lisa's biggest mistake? her breakfast.
"You have 1200 right here for breakfast," said Parkinson.
She suggests Lisa make gradual changes, like switching to a non-fat mocha for a few weeks, then eventually switching to one with soy milk.
Instead of a fat laden scone, Tammy says Lisa can have oatmeal, an energy bar, an apple and a tangerine for about half the calories.
For lunch she says nix the mayonnaise laden egg salad sandwich for one with turkey and mustard or a salad.
"When I look at your whole day, there's no greens," said Parkinson.
For dinner, Tammy suggests Lisa swap her burger for a chicken sandwich and drink water instead of a full sugar soda.
Maureen Brennan is what you might call a “diligent diner.”
"I’m on the go a lot, and I don't like to cook. And so because of the limited time, I tend to grab things at restaurants. And I’d like to be able to make healthier choices," said Brennan.
Tammy recommends she have a whole wheat bagel instead to get more fiber and order whole wheat pasta and eat only half.
Salad is a good choice, but it's not always low cal.
"This tiny cup. Look at it, it hardly moves. It's actually all fat. Caesar is one of the fattiest dressings you can get," said Parkinson.
Finally, if you dine out a lot, Tammy suggests that you go online to your favorite restaurant and decide which healthy option you're going to order before you get there.
And look at your choices, because smart choices lead to smaller waistlines.
