Making the Connection between Oral Health and Heart Health

Recent studies suggest that there may be a connection between your oral health and your risk for heart disease.  According to the American Academy of Periodontology, people with periodontal (tooth and gum) disease are almost twice as likely to have heart disease. In fact, the presence of common tooth and gum problems, such as cavities and gingivitis, may be as good at predicting heart disease as cholesterol levels.

Heart disease often has no symptoms in its early stages.  The connection between oral health and heart health could pave the way for earlier detection of heart disease, resulting in fewer heart attacks and stroke.

So brush and floss regularly – it could be good for your heart!
