I’ve heard rumors around Pembroke that the store was closed because they were “cashing” Food Stamps for many customers. (Giving customers a slightly reduced amount of cash for the Food Stamps, therefore making a profit off the Food Stamps and making the customers very happy, albeit illegally.)  The fact that the USDA closed the store makes the rumors seem plausible because it is the USDA that completely funds Food Stamps.
