Make a list, check it twice, put toiletries into small bottles and pack light.

Just some of the advice that seasoned air travelers already know by heart.  For all those traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday, it’s advice that bears repeatiing.  Lori Lynah from the Savannah-International Airport says the best thing you can do is arrive early.  “We suggest at least 90 minutes before your flight time,“ she tells me.  “That way, if there is a line, you have time to get through it, get through security and make it to your gate.“

Lynah says Wednesday will be a very busy day at the airport. She says there should be plenty of long term parking however.  “We have the newer garage close to the terminal and extended parking in lots as well.“

Airport officials advise dropping off passengers first and then parking.  And packing light may save you some bucks this year.  Most airlines are now charging for even one bag.  That means more passegners will be trying to take bags onto the aircraft as carry on luggage.  Make sure your bag is small enough to fit in the overhead bin or you’ll be forced to check it, even if you’ve already boarded.

And once you make it to Grandma’s house, remember you have the return flight to deal with.  So the same advice applies: pack light, arrive early and try to enjoy yourself.  After all, you are going on vacation, right?
