One woman is in the hospital after driving her car drove through a house!

It all happened at the corner of Cumberland Drive and Monterey Street in the Sylvan Terrace subdivision in west Savannah around 11:30 this morning.

3 On Your Side's Randi Hempel was at the crash site and spoke to the neighbor whose home was damaged.

Savannah Fire firefighters survey the crash scene and this totaled Taurus. The owner of the home the driver hit to end her journey is amazed.

“I was in the in the house and I heard the noise and I came out, the lady was in the car and we was talking to her.” Explains Nathaniel Washington.

Nathaniel Washington says the driver didn't say what happened, but she complained about her legs. He was surprised by what he saw when he looked around; piles of broken bricks, scattered debris and of course the car..a car that had quite a trip before it ended up here.

The driver came up onto the curb, went straight through a garage, hitting the car inside, but that's not where the car stopped, it went through the back side of garage, through the fence with bricks before coming to a stop at Mr. Washington's house.

“It takes a lot of velocity to do the amount of damage that was done to the car and to this house as far as speculation on a rate of speed.  I couldn't begin to tell you.” explains Captain Matt Stanley of Savannah Fire and EMS.

It could have been much worse. Nobody else was injured.

“Fortunately, it didn't go through a living area of the house where somebody could have been sitting having breakfast, an early lunch or something like that.” Adds Stanley.

The damage left behind doesn't bother Washington.

“The insurance company will take care of it.” Adds Washington.

One woman was displaced because of the accident. Her home was hit first by the car. She is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
