Swainsboro, GA — An Emanuel County Sheriff’s deputy is recovering at the Medical College of Georgia, after he was run over during a traffic stop.

The sheriff’s office said Deputy Daniel Moxley had pulled over Patrick Kersey on suspicion of drunk driving around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said before Moxley could arrest Kersey, Kersey drove off in his truck, hitting Moxley.

The GBI and Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the U.S. Marshals Service to find Kersey.  The search for the suspect took authorities into Chatham and Effingham Counties.

Around noon Thursday, U.S. Marshals personnel were in Eden, Georgia, following a lead on Kersey’s whereabouts, when authorities said he drove up and was taken into custody.  Kersey was taken to the Effingham County jail to await transport to Emanuel County.

Kersey is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery, and felony obstruction.
