Hampton Co. SC Shooting Suspects Arrested

Hampton County, South Carolina officials arrested four shooting suspects.  Officials say four men from Yemassee were arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill in connection to a Sunday night shooting incident in Early Branch on Hicksville Road.

Jarvae Adolphus Myers, 23, Stewart Elliott, 25, James Ferguson Jr, 23, and Edward Fennell, 22, all of Yemassee, were each charged in connection with the incident.  All four men will have a bond hearing this afternoon at 4p.m.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.  John Holmes, 22, of Yemassee, was injured in the shooting, taken to the hospital in a vehicle, and later transported to MUSC in Charleston for further treatment of a bullet wound to his lower back. He remains in the hospital Today.

Officials say the incident occurred when a car with two people from the residence pulled into their driveway and were followed there by several people in a separate vehicle. An altercation ensued and gun shots were fired. The altercation apparently began over the sale of a used cell phone earlier in the week.

“It is important for everyone to become involved in neighborhood watch groups and for people within the community to watch for unusual behavior and report it to authorities so that we can intervene before something reaches the level this particular incident reached because someone could have died,” Hampton County Sheriff T.C. Smalls said.

The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident as additional arrests are pending and further information will be released as it becomes available.
