Interim Chief Lovett Assumes Command
Assistant Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett has assumed the role of interim chief.
Assistant Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett has assumed the role of interim chief. It’s the second time he’s held that position. The new job came about following the resignation of Chief Michael Berkow who announced he was leaving the department back on august 25th. Berkow is still officially chief until October 10th - but is on personal leave until then - necessitating the transition of command to Chief Lovett who says he is interested in the permanent position. When asked how it feels to be back in the job on an interim basis after losing out on the job three years ago - Lovett said, “It’s no different that everyday living with me. I’ve been second in command. When he’s not here - I’m in command anyway - so this is not really a super thing for me - it’s just doing what I do everyday.” As far as any changes he may have in mind for the department - Chief Lovett says he plans to continue business as usual for now to ensure a smooth transition. Any changes he may contemplate in the future will depend on how long he keeps the job.
